Senior Management Team

Rhona is a highly experienced senior healthcare director with a strong history of redesigning healthcare models and a special interest and education in cancer and palliative care.

She started her career in the Bank of Scotland in Glasgow before moving into healthcare. Rhona qualified as a nurse in 1984 and attained RN status in Canada, living and working in Toronto.

In 1995 she graduated from the University of Glasgow with a postgraduate degree in cancer nursing, progressing to a BSc in community health at Glasgow Caledonian University.

After working in community palliative care, she took up the first of two project management posts with Lanarkshire Health Board.

During that time Rhona identified a gap in the provision of care in the community, campaigned for Cancer in Scotland funding, and developed a service to support terminally ill patients who wished to die at home. The project received a special commendation by the Scottish Parliament.

She was then seconded to the Scottish Executive Centre for Change and Innovation as a national facilitator within the cancer service improvement programme and worked across Scotland.

Rhona was appointed CEO of the hospice in 2008.

Her passion and strong commitment to Glasgow saw her successfully lead a £21million capital fundraising appeal to provide the city with a new hospice.

She is a past chairman of the Scottish Hospice Leadership Group and a former member of the council of The Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care, in addition to being a Director of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce Council.

Rhona was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her exceptional contributions to the field of palliative care and her efforts in expanding the reach and impact of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in June 2023.

Gillian is a senior nurse with a wide range of experience in palliative care.

She has held a number of professional roles, from management and leadership, to practice development, and has provided specialist palliative care across acute services, day treatment units, specialist inpatient units and in the community.

Having worked across care settings alongside patients, families and professionals, Gillian has a clear understanding of the challenges people face when trying to navigate health and social care during difficult times.

She is passionate about developing services in collaboration with patient groups, and health and social care partners, to meet the individual needs of the diverse population groups the hospice serves.

As we move forward our models of care will need to change and Gillian is excited about leading the clinical teams through this transition, while always continuing to strive for excellence.

Laura has been a consultant in palliative medicine since 2004. She has worked in palliative care in hospital and hospice settings for ten years in Surrey before joining The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in March 2014.

She works with patients and families in their communities, on the inpatient unit at the hospice, and in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

Within her clinical roles, Laura is also involved in teaching medical students and junior medical staff, to ensure current and future doctors are learning the value of specialist palliative care.

She has responsibility for the medical team within the hospice and is our representative at regional and national meetings.

Laura also has the role of Caldicott Guardian for the hospice, ensuring patient information is dealt with in a sensitive manner in accordance with national legislation, and she chairs the information governance group of the hospice strategy.

With a wealth of clinical knowledge as well as years of experience dealing with the palliative care needs of patients and families, Laura has particular interest in the ethics of palliative care.

She has an MA in the ethics of cancer and palliative care, and also in the area of prognostication in palliative care populations.

Laura had been trained in delivering advanced communication skills training and is looking forward to using this knowledge to provide training to healthcare professionals involved in providing palliative care.

She is driven by the knowledge that there is only chance to get it right for patients at the end of life and is determined to ensure that all patients who need specialist palliative care at the end of life receive it.

Gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of working in accounts from cash handling, processing invoices and managing bank transactions gave her a strong foundation to progressing her career.

In 2011, Emma relocated to Oxford, where she continued her career in accounts at Opus Energy Ltd while pursuing further education. She successfully completed the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification in 2012, then continued studying and became a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in 2015. During her time at Opus, Emma worked as Accounts Assistant, Financial Planning Analyst and Management Accountant. She gained expertise in budgeting, monthly accounts preparation, and variance analysis.

In 2018, Emma returned to Scotland and rejoined the hospice, this time as a management accountant. Emma was delighted to return to the hospice as she enjoys combining her passion for finance while supporting such a worthwhile cause.

Her dedication and proficiency in financial matters led to her promotion to the position of Head of Finance in February 2023. With her strategic thinking and attention to detail, Emma plays a vital role in ensuring the financial stability and success of the organisation.

Anne is responsible for the delivery of operational services to ensure patients and their families experience a valued service.

Anne, who also deputises for the chief executive, has been at the hospice for 20 years

She has a background in catering and has gained knowledge, skills and experience of hard and soft facilities management through various learning disciplines.

She also leads on risk management initiatives and incorporating health and safety across all hospice departments.

Luan joined the NHS in 2004 following seven years working in local newspapers in Ayrshire.  During this early time in her career, she learned what made a good news story and what people want to hear about. It also provided her with a knowledge and understanding of media relations.

These were put to good use when joining the NHS. During her 15 years there, she undertook a number of communication roles. In addition to providing all internal and external communications for the organisation and for the population of 365,000 circa, she was proud to work on standalone projects including the 10 –year process of approval, planning and building of the £46million mental health hospital which opened in 2016. She has also been responsible for crisis communications both in-hours and out-of-hours. Luan was the on-call officer for the NHS when the Clutha helicopter descended in Glasgow which resulted in national and international news coverage of the organisation along with the incident.  During her time with the NHS, she also saw the introduction of social media which has had a major impact on the way people receive their news. While this introduction has meant moving away from a reliance on mainstream media, Luan has the experience and knowledge to bridge both spheres of these communications platforms.

Since leaving the NHS and coming to the hospice, Luan is excited about the possibilities of enhancing the already well-established brand of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.  With new challenges ahead, Luan is dedicated to telling the hospice story to as many people as possible. 

Following an extensive event management career in both the financial services and media sector she then turned her passion for events to the 3^rd sector to be part of the PPWH team who were implementing a £21m capital appeal to build our new hospice.  For over 15 years Jackie has managed relationships with corporate partners and high net worth donors whilst delivering both small and large scale events.

Prior to joining the hospice Jackie acted as an independent event consultant, providing services to BQ Magazine and KPMG, implementing new and delivering existing event programs. 

Previous roles have also included, Events Manager with media giant, Trinity Mirror in Scotland, big four accountancy firm PwC and one of Scotland’s top tourist destinations, Loch Lomond Shores. 

Fraser trained as a musician and received his MA in Music from Glasgow University whereafter he played professionally. In 2013 Fraser changed trajectory and cut his teeth with the Digital & Marketing Team at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Fraser moved agency side in 2015 where he became Account Director for POSH Agency. Fraser oversaw digital delivery and strategy for clients covering Arts, Automotive, Council, Travel & Tourism, Hospitality, and briefly contracted to support The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice throughout the capital appeal before moving in-house in 2016 as Digital Development Manager.

In 2017 he moved in-house at Glasgow Airport, and latterly to AGS Airports, where over the next 5 years he deployed a multi-million-pound digital transformation programme dedicated to modernising digital and data services for AGS Airports. Fraser served as an advisory board member for International Airport Review, and frequently presented at conference discussing data and e-commerce solutions. Fraser transformed customer engagement across all three airports, and he also launched the first Airport Voice & Chat Bot service built entirely during lockdown. During the pandemic the technology was repurposed in 7 days to run AGS Airports multi-million-pound COVID business. 

In 2020 Fraser created his own digital consultancy, which supported many clients including The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. Fraser created the Digital and Data Strategy and moved in-house once again to support The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice as Head of Digital in November 2022.
