Clinical Team

Gillian is a senior nurse with a wide range of experience in palliative care.

She has held a number of professional roles, from management and leadership, to practice development, and has provided specialist palliative care across acute services, day treatment units, specialist inpatient units and in the community.

Having worked across care settings alongside patients, families and professionals, Gillian has a clear understanding of the challenges people face when trying to navigate health and social care during difficult times.

She is passionate about developing services in collaboration with patient groups, and health and social care partners, to meet the individual needs of the diverse population groups the hospice serves.

As we move forward our models of care will need to change and Gillian is excited about leading the clinical teams through this transition, while always continuing to strive for excellence.

Laura has been a consultant in palliative medicine since 2004. She has worked in palliative care in hospital and hospice settings for ten years in Surrey before joining The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in March 2014.

She works with patients and families in their communities, on the inpatient unit at the hospice, and in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

Within her clinical roles, Laura is also involved in teaching medical students and junior medical staff, to ensure current and future doctors are learning the value of specialist palliative care.

She has responsibility for the medical team within the hospice and is our representative at regional and national meetings.

Laura also has the role of Caldicott Guardian for the hospice, ensuring patient information is dealt with in a sensitive manner in accordance with national legislation, and she chairs the information governance group of the hospice strategy.

With a wealth of clinical knowledge as well as years of experience dealing with the palliative care needs of patients and families, Laura has particular interest in the ethics of palliative care.

She has an MA in the ethics of cancer and palliative care, and also in the area of prognostication in palliative care populations.

Laura had been trained in delivering advanced communication skills training and is looking forward to using this knowledge to provide training to healthcare professionals involved in providing palliative care.

She is driven by the knowledge that there is only chance to get it right for patients at the end of life and is determined to ensure that all patients who need specialist palliative care at the end of life receive it.

Prior to her current post she spent 18 months working with the palliative care practice development team in GG&C and then 7 years as Education Facilitator in the PPWH delivering education around all aspects of palliative, end of life and bereavement care.

Within the role of ACNS Jane offers advice and support to patients and families diagnosed with a palliative condition, helping patients cope with their illness through holistic symptom assessment and management to allow the patient to live well and die well in their place of choice. This support is offered in the patient’s home and in nurse led clinics within the hospice and in the community.

Jane has achieved her MSc in Advance practice, has a keen interest in nurturing leadership and the future of palliative care provision and most recently have completed 3 post graduate modules , Non-medical prescribing, clinical assessment/decision making and pathophysiology  which awards her a certificate as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

I joined the hospice team in September 2002, prior to this i worked in the acute sector in both HDU and ITU.

I joined as a staff nurse and worked on the ward for 4 years before joining the hospice community team where I worked as a CNS for 2 years. I loved this role but was always drawn back to the in patient unit as I very much loved working as part of a bigger team. I have been given the opportunities to progress from band 5 to band 7 and have been fully supported both educationally and personally to help with my development.

I love leading a team helping support the staff development and really the development of the hospice looking at how it has evolved in the past 20 years. I have been fortunate in my career to work with such a forward thinking team who have inspired me to develop our service.

I have been inspired by so many wonderful patients and families along the way and I really could not imagine working in any other field of nursing.

I joined the Hospice in April 2023. I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in February 2004 and worked within the Surgical receiving unit and Gastrointestinal surgery. Throughout my experience within the acute hospital, I realised I wanted to pursue my career in Specialist Palliative care.

I then went to work in St Andrews Hospice as a staff nurse within the Inpatient unit for nine years, during this time I gained valuable knowledge, skills and experience. I enjoyed working within a team providing holistic care to patients and their families.

In 2014 I felt ready for a new challenge and joined Kilbryde Hospice. Kilbryde Hospice was a new purpose built Hospice in South Lanarkshire. I was fortunate to join the Hospice at a very early stage and be involved in establishing Day Service and the outpatient’s department as a staff Nurse.

Through learning and developing I was appointed the Day Services Manager position. As the Hospice evolved, I felt privileged to have been involved in the Project team to ensure all policies, procedures and operationally the Inpatient Unit was safe and ready to open in August 2018. I gained valuable experience developing services and contributing within a project team.

I enjoyed the opportunity developing services. As the ward was ready to open, I was successful and appointed the Inpatient Unit Managers position where I worked for four and a half years.

I feel privileged to join The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice as the Young Adult Service Lead and to work within the Young Adult Service. I have been inspired by the young adults and their families and look forward to working in a team to establish how as a service we can make a difference to the young adults and their families.

She has a longstanding interest in care of older adults, and she practiced nursing for five years in the care home sector before moving to ACCORD Hospice, Paisley where she worked for 23 years in a variety of roles – including education and facilitation. She is passionate about finding innovative ways to ease stress and distress and make meaningful connections so people can flourish.

Since 2010 Lorna has championed Namaste Care and Namaste Care Training in Scotland. Namaste Care is a creative, mindful, person-centred approach for people with end-stage dementia and at risk of disconnection. Research suggests it can: empower staff and families with new ways of relating to people with dementia; improve quality of life, interactions, and interest in surroundings; and reduce agitation.

In the IPU she developed her nursing skills, which set the foundations for the future care she wanted to offer patients. She also realised that it was a privilege to listen to peoples life stories, whilst working and spending time with patients.

In 2012 she became Outpatient Sister at the hospice, she supported patients within Day services,  controlling physical symptoms, and at happier times, helping to organise weddings and events for patients within the hospice.  She also delivered Nurse Led Clinics in the hospice, and Castlemilk Health Centre, this was a very different role, working within communities, alongside G.P.’s and district nurses.

As her role changed she focused on offering support more to carers, she recognised a need for carer support and working as part of a team the Befriending service was developed.

Today Sharon continues to offer support to Outpatients in her role as Senior Charge Nurse, managing the teams within the Living Well Hub and Outpatients. She values being a part of a collaborative team of specialists who together can provide physical and emotional support to patients and their families
