Carol Smillie

For the last 30 years, Carol Smillie is one of TV’s best-known faces. From her early career on 'Wheel of Fortune' to the BBC’s 'Changing Rooms', earning her invitations to Buckingham Palace, Downing Street, an Indie award, a National TV Award, and a BAFTA nomination.

And of course Ronni Ancona's alter ego 'Smillie Smillie Carol Smillie'

Other shows quickly followed such as Dream Holiday Home (C5) and A Brush With Fame (ITV1) and she even took part in Strictly Come Dancing (BBC1) winning 5th place. Carol has also guested on countless shows including 'Friday Night With Jonathon Ross' 'Graham Norton', 'Have I Got News For You' and 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'.

She has published her own book, 'Carol Smillie's Working Mum's Handbook', and pre- and post-natal fitness DVD 'Changing Shape', as well as columns in Woman's Own and The Sunday Times.

Carol was chosen to host the Duke of Edinburgh's 80th birthday celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall and even turned her hand to comedy, treading the boards with two sell-out tours of' Vagina Monologues' and a further two of the hilarious 'Hormonal Housewives'

In 2012, she became an entrepreneur and launched her own business in 2012, the award-winning brand DiaryDoll - Pretty Clever Pants, stocked in stores like Boots, John Lewis, QVC and Debenhams, before selling it 6 years later to tv shopping channel High St TV. 

In 2018, she chose yet another twist of career, and trained to be a Humanist Celebrant, conducting non-religious weddings, funerals and baby naming’s with Humanist Society Scotland, a job she says has completely changed her outlook on life, saying “helping people through the best and worst days of their lives is nothing short of a privilege"

Richard Muir

Richard was educated at the University of Ulster where he obtained a BA Hons in History / Sociology and followed this up with an Msc in Marketing at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. 

Richard's first job was as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant at Oxford Polytechnic and moved back to Scotland to work as a Marketing Executive for a Kit Campbell Associates a leisure and sports marketing agency in Edinburgh.

He spent 6 years working in a variety of roles including project management at the economic development agency, Lothian and Edinburgh Enterprise Ltd and then moved to LEEL's sister agency, the Glasgow Development Agency as the Project Manager for the creative industries including working with companies involved in the film, television and design sectors.

A switch to the private sector followed with a move as Marketing and Business Development Manager at 1576 Advertising Ltd in Edinburgh and 18 months later became Marketing Manager for Radio Clyde in Glasgow. Richard spent 8 years as Marketing Manager before being promoted to Marketing Director for Bauer Media which operated both Radio Clyde and Radio Forth, both market leading radio stations in their respective areas. 

Richard joined the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce as Commercial Director in December 2009 and was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive in July 2012 and his key responsibilities lie around commercial strategy and revenue generation through membership services, marketing and communications, events and training and international trade development.  In recent times Richard has been involved in an ambitious growth plan for the Chamber which includes a membership drive and new marketing campaign as well as working on trade partnerships with overseas Chambers of Commerce in the USA, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Norway and assisting with the development of the Clyde Green Freeport bid.

He lives in the Trossachs and has a passion for sports, outdoor pursuits and travel around Scotland and overseas.

Ross Cameron has worked within the Financial Services Sector for over 30 years.

He is currently Regional Director for St. James’s Place Wealth Management in Glasgow which is now the largest Wealth Manager in the UK and a FTSE top 40 company.

Prior to this Ross held senior management positions with HSBC Wealth, Santander, Inscape Investments and Towry Wealth Advisors.

Ross is a keen sportsman having ran competitively for Shettleston Harriers and Scotland in his youth.

Ross is married to Jillian and has one son Max who is fourteen.

Martin McHugh is a well-regarded Glasgow businessman, known for his larger-than-life personality.

Staring out as a steel fabricator, with his entrepreneurial spirit, Martin soon saw an opportunity to provide quality steel doors to the social housing market.  He started Martec Engineering over 38 years ago and it is now the market leader in communal entrance doors in Scotland.

Martin is well known for his philanthropic nature and is a major supporter of local charities around Glasgow. Martins’ annual charity golf day has raised more than £350k over the last 21 years. PPWH are lucky enough to be one of the chosen charities that benefit from the fundraising over the years.

Peter Samson

Peter Samson is head of Glasgow-based PR/social media company PDS Media.

After a successful - and award-winning - career in some of the country’s biggest newspapers, Peter Samson launched his own public relations and media consultancy in 1999. Since then, Peter has advised a string of well-known businesses on all matters, media-wise. 

An enthusiastic traveller – pandemic permitting – Peter turns his writing skills to good use by contributing travel articles to several publications.  

Since his teenage days Peter has regularly committed time to supporting charities, a move he describes simply as ‘my way of giving back’. More recently he joined the hospice as a regular volunteer with a dual role – working in the Barga Cree Café and on the reception desk as part of the ‘meet and greet’ team.

Cat Leaver

As Head of Brand & Global Marketing for VisitScotland, Cat is responsible for providing strategic leadership and innovation across all elements of brand identity, creative and marketing activation, and a portfolio of strategic projects.

Each of her teams - Design, Multimedia, Global Marketing and PR - play a pivotal role in driving responsible growth of the visitor economy through guardianship of our destination brand and creative production, close working with industry and sectors, and delivery of award-winning, integrated marketing campaigns and activity to global audiences. Cat also leads on our involvement in the Brand Scotland partnership, sitting on the Strategic Forum Group, and beyond VisitScotland holds a non-executive board position with Scotland's digital academy CodeClan.

Glen Frew

Glen retired from dentistry in 2015, having spent most of his career in private practice in Glasgow's West End.

He is proud to be an Ambassador for the Hospice and has been involved in fundraising over the past 10 years.

His five grandchildren run him ragged, and he recently wrote a book for them - 'Jurassic Jasper' - which is on sale in the Hospice Shop.

In his retirement Glen is an avid reader and a keen but erratic golfer.
