Being a Volunteer
Why volunteer?
Volunteering can be hugely rewarding, as well as being a great way of gaining valuable experience, skills and meeting new people. At the same time, you'll know that you're supporting an excellent cause and helping our patients make the most of each day.
What can I do?
Depending on your interests and skills, your role might be here in the Hospice, assisting in one of our Hospice shops or if you can't commit to a regular slot there are always opportunities to support the fundraising team.
...in the Hospice
You could support us here at the Hospice by helping out on our busy reception desk, the café or in administration. Or you may wish to be more involved in patient care and help our staff to support patients in Day Services or the in-patient unit.
Alternatively, you might be able to contribute particular skills such as hairdressing, complementary therapy, flower arranging or driving..
...in the Hospice Shops
We have 13 shops around Glasgow, all raising funds to support our work. Whether you're serving behind the counter or helping sort and price donations, you can be sure that your time is making a huge difference. If you have good computer skills, you could volunteer to support the Hospice shops through assisting with our online Ebay shop.
...in Fundraising
By supporting the fundraising team, you will be helping us to reach our annual fundraising total of £4 million. You could lend a hand at some of our corporate and community events, sell raffle tickets or help us with Christmas collections. Our fundraising volunteers are usually required on a flexible basis, making it an ideal opportunity if a regular commitment isn't possible for you.
How much time can I give?
It doesn't matter how much or how little time you can give. We have people who give two hours once a month and others who come in two or three times a week. It is entirely up to you and whatever time you can commit to the Hospice, it is all equally valuable.
All we ask is that you remember we rely on you in the same way as we do our paid staff so please give us as much notice as possible if you are ill or are unable to make your shift.
