Bereavement support
Thank goodness the Hospice hasn't forgot about me...
While caring for a patient with terminal illness, our staff often have time to build up a personal relationship with the patient's family or carers too. That necessarily will involve preparation for bereavement.
Everyone grieves in their own way and there is no set time for moving on. That's why we will contact you at regular intervals during the first year, just to see how you're doing. However, don't wait if you feel you need to talk. You might wish to speak informally with whomever you have been closest to - a ward nurse, home care nurse, social worker or the chaplain.
Hospice Bereavement Group This is a small group that meets at the Hospice every other week over a two month period. Our social worker facilitates, but there is no formal structure. The aim is to reduce feelings of isolation and encourage you to tap into mutual self-help while you are reorganising your life.
If you feel you need more in-depth therapeutic counselling, we point you towards reputable organisations and individual practitioners who can help.
Our Bereavement Pack has information leaflets about financial and legal aspects as well the emotional difficulties of bereavement.
