Help with state benefits & services
Just when you want to be concentrating totally on caring, you may suddenly realise that serious illness can have huge financial implications - especially if your loved one is the main breadwinner. As a matter of course, we ask our patients first thing for their permission to check whether they are getting all the benefits they should be getting and then, if need be, involve a social worker in your case.
Glasgow City Council provides the Hospice with two social workers as part of the multi-professional team. In their supportive role, they don't just tell you that you are entitled to this or that - they make sure you are receiving the correct amount by helping you access the Benefits Agency and advising you on completing forms.
They can also help you access additional support at home to help in complex care situations.
