Patient Services
At the heart of the Hospice ethos is the commitment to treat the person, not the disease, and to consider both the patient and the family or carers, not just the person who is ill.
We recognise your emotional and spiritual needs as well as your physical/medical requirements. Although we cannot cure your illness, we can help you cope with the symptoms and the emotional distress, and achieve the best possible quality of life for the time remaining to you.
Even so, while offering palliative care - designed to bring comfort rather than cure - we practice active medicine at the Hospice, specialising in pain and symptom control.
How we can help The Hospice offers four distinct areas of care. You may access any one of them or all of them, according to your individual needs.
- The Laurieston nurses - our team of highly-trained clinical nurse specialists, take Hospice services out to home-based patients and their carers.
- In-patients ward - our facility in Carlton Place, is used for symptom management, short term admissions to help support patients and their carers and care at the final stage of life.
- Day services - available through our Day Care Centre in Carlton Place, are for patients who are generally coping well at home but at times need support for specific needs or issues.
- Support while in hospital - Our Consultant in Palliative Medicine, part of the specialist team at the Hospice, works with hospitals in South Glasgow to link with and access services in the Hospice, as appropriate.
