Working with terminally ill patients
Because so much of the focus of healthcare is on cure, many practitioners find it hard to imagine what it is like to work exclusively with patients for whom no cure is available.
The Hospice employs highly trained doctors, nurses and auxiliaries and also draws from a bank of RNs and auxiliaries who want to establish themselves in palliative care.
In addition to professional qualifications, you need certain personal qualities to work in palliative care - among them, the ability to communicate and a high degree of empathy.
We make sure our staff know how to care for themselves as well as their patients. We also make the working environment the best it can be - with flexible working hours, reflective practice, continuous professional development and the opportunity to have clinical placements elsewhere.
It's demanding work, but privileged too.
