Council Considers Proposal for New Hospice Site

05 Oct 2011

The Glasgow City Council Executive Committee will be considering a proposal to lease a site next to Bellahouston Park to the Hospice for our new planned facility in the city.

We have been searching for a suitable location since announcing plans to develop a new building which, in addition to enhancing our existing adult services, will include a service for young people with life-limiting illnesses aged between 15-25 years old.

The proposed site, adjacent to the east side of Bellahouston Park, is currently being used as a municipal depot by the Council's Land & Environmental Services. Plans are in place to relocate this depot, which will leave the site vacant.

It is in an area of the park that is not available to the public and held by the Council under the Glasgow Corporation Parks Act, and as such, is not part of the Common Good.

We are absolutely delighted that this site is under consideration as it offers both privacy and a quiet, leafy area that would form the perfect environment for a 21st century care facility.

One of our main wishes for the new facility is for patients be to able to have better access to outside space which would be of huge benefit to them. This is one of the many reasons why we're so excited about this particular site and all it could potentially offer.

Following the proposal to the Executive Committee being approved on Thursday 6th October, we will await the outcome of the development plan which will outline the public and statutory consultation process, due to be made available in early 2012.

We will be keeping you up to date with the progress of the proposal here, so please keep visiting the Hospice website for further news.
