Building a Brand New Hospice
01 May 2011

Here at the Hospice we are continually striving to expand and enhance our services in line with national policy to ensure that we meet our main objective of providing the best possible care for our patients and their families.
Recent examples of how this is being achieved include the extension of our community nurse service to seven days a week, our work with the South Asian community of Glasgow to increase access and understanding in the community and the establishment of a multi-disciplinary family support service.
This, alongside our ongoing aim to deliver the uppermost standard of care, have contributed to our gaining the highest possible rating from our Scottish Regulation of Care Commission inspection.
This has provided us with the ideal platform to unveil our plans to build a brand-new multi-million pound Hospice facility, which we anticipate will open in 2016. Not only will this enable us to further extend our existing services, it will allow us to provide much-needed provision to young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses across the West of Scotland.

We believe this development will be a huge step forward in the provision of palliative care services to the people of Glasgow, and in particular will address the specific gap in the availability of care for the young people who can be lost in transition between children's and adult's health services.
We are currently seeking a suitable site in South Glasgow which will provide an enhanced Hospice facility suitable for all ages including an in-patient unit with single rooms throughout and a range of private indoor and outdoor spaces for patients and their families and carers. The new Hospice will provide specialist areas for both adults and young people, allowing us to address the specific and differing needs of both age groups.
We've outlined our plan to Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board and will be working closely with them throughout the development to ensure that the new Hospice provides the most effective service to Glasgow in the years ahead.
The project will be managed by the Glasgow office of Davis Langdon and architectural practices will be invited to submit concept designs for the new Hospice.
There will be numerous amounts of ways you can get involved in supporting the development of Glasgow's Hospice so please watch this space for details.
