Liz's Extra Special Thank You
23 Jul 2012
Liz McCallum from Burnside has been working with a number of staff here at the Hospice, including Laurieston Nurse Jackie Peacock and Linda McEnhill from Family Support Services.
As a thank you for the help that she feels the Hospice has given her, Liz has been enthusiastically fundraising on our behalf.
She has been so successful in her efforts that she recently visited to Hospice to hand over a cheque for £5,000!
Part of this was raised through knitting over 100 scarves and selling them each for £10 and Liz's local churches Burnside Blairbeth Church and Claremont Parish Church have supported her by organising coffee mornings.
Friends and family also lent a hand and Clare Burns, of James Burns Hair Design took part in this year's Women's 10k.
When we asked Liz what had inspired her to raise such a tremendous amount for the charity she told us, "I know that Jackie and Linda are always at the other end of the phone whenever I need them and I can talk to them about anything. They've been a great help and it's nice to know that everyone at the Hospice will be there for my family in the future."
Liz also had some advice she would pass on to others who have a life-limiting illness.
"I think the two main things I've learnt is firstly how important it is to accept help, not just from the Hospice, but from friends and family as well. They can make all the difference and they want to be able to help. And secondly how important it is to stay positive."
We were all very sad when Liz died on the 17th October 2012 here at the Hospice. She was an incredible women and we would like to pass on our sympathies to her family, who have, in a manner fitting of her tremendous support of the Hospice, set up a tribute fund in her memory.
