The Hospice achieves a Glas-Goal!!

Team members with Tony Carlin

Here at the Hospice we're keen to support our staff to maintain 'Healthy Working Lives' and consider how they can stay fit and healthy. Teams throughout the Hospice have been working together to come up with a number of initiatives to do just this and have seen some great results over the last year.

Therefore, we were delighted when all their hard work and effort was acknowledged by the Evening Times we were were named 'Best Workplace' in their Glas-Goals campaign.

Glas-Goals, which was launched in January 2010, was a year-long project with the aim of getting the people of Glasgow to "walk half a million miles, lose half a million pounds and stub out half a million cigarettes". These targets were more than achieved, and we were very pleased to be able to contribute to such a successful campaign.

The Glas-Goals team initially visited the Hospice in October last year to find out how some of our team members were going about 'Dropping a Dress Size' in time for Christmas. This was done through weekly weigh-ins, healthy recipe swaps, lunchtime walking clubs and, most importantly, supporting and encouraging other members of the group to keep going.

Not only did the group achieve their goal, but have continued to maintain their healthy lifestyles, and staff members can regularly be seen heading out for a walk or jog together after work or choosing one of the new healthy options from the Hospice canteen.

This continued hard work has led to this well deserved award and it was a proud moment when it was presented to the team by Evening Times editor Tony Carlin. We'd like to say a huge well done to all those involved and many thanks to the Evening Times for their support and acknowledgement.
