A Celebration of Burns 2012
24 Jan 2012

Over 550 guests joined our host, television presenter and musician Dougie Vipond for our annual "Celebration of Burns" honouring the life and spirit of the great Scottish bard, Rabbie Burns. With the emphasis very much on merriment and fun, the evening began in true Scottish style when we were joined by the First Scottish Milngavie Pipe Band, whose fabulous sound accompanied our guests to their seats.
Our first speaker was Christopher Tait, performing as the great man himself as he offered his 'Address to the Haggis' culminating with a toast of 12 year old Glenfiddich single malt donated by William Grant & Sons.
After guests had enjoyed the traditional dish, courtesy of the Hilton's 5 star chefs, the Blok Professional Dance Troupe entertained the audience with a fantastic repertoire including freestyle, ballet, hip hop and Scottish dance. Our modern day Burns then regaled guests with a fabulous version of Immortal Memory.

Following dessert, actress Jane McCarry and her Still Game co-star Mark Cox provided their hilarious 'Toast to the Laddies' and equally amusing 'Toast to the Lassies'.
Having enjoyed a wee dram or two, guests then took to the dance floor and showed us how to ceilidh in style to the superb sounds of live band Callanish! Throughout the course of the evening they also had the chance to buy some stunning original paintings by artists who live and work in Scotland at our annual Art Exhibition, all raising funds for the Hospice.

As well as celebrating the life and works of Burns with great cheer, the evening was also a huge success for the Hospice with over £50,000 raised on the night. We would like to thank our sponsors BAA Glasgow and all those who supported the event and contributed to this fabulous fundraising total. We hope to see you again next year!
