In the Community

Many people with serious illnesses chose to be cared for at home. Our specialist palliative care teams work within the community to provide the majority of services that are available in the Hospice to patients and carers in their own homes.

Laurieston Community Team

The Laurieston Community service has a dedicated team of six clinical nurse specialists and a specialist doctor in palliative care who provide advice and support to patients and their carers, in their own homes. The team will also work closely with the patient's GP and district nurse, who remain the key workers. This service is available from 9am - 5pm seven days a week with further support from our 24 hour helpline - 0141 420 6785.

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy aims to improve the quality of our patients' lives by helping them maintain their independence, gain relief from pain and perform day to day activities which their illness may have made difficult or impossible.

They work closely with the Laurieston Community Team and can visit patients in their own homes, identify realistic goals and work together to achieve them.

Chaplaincy

The Hospice has a full time, non-denominational chaplain who is able to offer patients and families whatever support they feel appropriate. Our chaplain makes home visits to patients being cared for in their own homes and their families. Whatever faith, or no faith, the chaplain works alongside patients to support them in the issues relating to their lives as they arise.

24 hour helpline

The Hospice's clinical staff are available to offer emergency advice on any issues being experienced by patients or carers who are under Hospice care via a direct line to the in-patient ward - 0141 420 6785.
